Mattresses have a set lifespan, and it is unrealistic to expect them to offer support beyond that time period. If you have found yourself tossing and turning during the night or waking up with a sore back and neck, it may be time to consider purchasing a new mattress set. Today’s mattresses offer myriad features such as memory foam and cooling technology to keep you comfortable and well supported all night long. The Casper mattress is one such memory foam mattress that offers zoned support to ensure proper spinal alignment, along with proprietary foam material that is designed to keep you cool while you sleep.

How It Compares

We picked a few similar products available on the market to see how they compare. To ensure an objective comparison, we looked at features such as price, construction, support, motion transfer, and warranty coverage. The following models were compared to the flagship Casper mattress.

  • Leesa
  • Tuft ‘N’ Needles
  • Tempurpedic TEMPUR-Adapt

Casper Sleep Foam Mattress, Queen, 2018 Edition
  • 4-layers of premium foam construction for support, breathability, and bounce
  • Breathable open-cell foams have tiny pores to let hot air escape, keeping you cool at night
  • Combination of softer foam for shoulder region and supportive firm foam for core and hip area

The San Francisco-based engineer and design teams for Casper developed an award-winning mattress that is very well put together. They manage to deliver incredible support, cooling comfort, and the feeling of sleeping on your bed, not in it, by using their own proprietary technology.

Each of the four layers of foam that make up the Casper mattress is designed for a specific purpose. The high-density base layer provides a sturdy and supportive base for the rest of the bed. This is topped with a layer of zoned poly foam that offers more support for areas that tend to sink further into memory foam (such as your hips) and lighter support for your shoulders and feet. Next is a memory foam layer that gives that welcoming, surrounding feeling you expect from the material. It is topped with Casper’s own proprietary latex-like material that offers the best features of natural latex without the high price.

The Casper mattress offers fairly firm support, yet is suitable for all sleep positions. The zoned support found in the third layer of each Casper mattress keeps your spine aligned and healthy, which is a big plus for side sleepers looking for a relatively firm mattress.

Motion Transfer

All foam construction dampens the feel of someone moving on this mattress, as you would expect. You will probably feel your partner moving around, but it shouldn’t be so pronounced that it keeps you awake all night.

The Casper mattress is backed by a 10-year warranty, which is pretty standard for memory foam mattresses. Since the best way to decide if a mattress is right for you is to sleep on it, Casper allows users to try it risk free in their home for 100 nights. The company will come and pick up your mattress with no questions, strings, or extra charges if you don’t love it. Whenever possible, unwanted trial mattresses are donated to charities such as homeless shelters.

Double check the warranty and sleep trial information if you decide to purchase it from a retailer other than Casper. Some companies do not accept returns, or limit the eligibility period for them to fewer than Casper’s 100 days.

  • Zoned support to alleviate pressure points
  • Proprietary foam with built-in cooling technology

Leesa Original Foam 10" Mattress, Queen Size, Cooling Foam and Memory...
  • Set Up: Simply take your mattress out of the box and enjoy watching it decompress. Jumping, walking, and sleeping on...

Leesa is a leader in the bed in a box mattress industry. They have strategic partnerships with other bedding companies, and offer affordable, feature-rich mattresses. Their signature bed, the Leesa, is made of three layers of foam in varying thicknesses and offers excellent support, cooling temperature regulation, and a somewhat surprising “sleeping on top of the bed” feel.

Leesa has a strong sense of social responsibility. The company has a 1 – 10 program where, for every ten mattresses it sells, Leesa donates a brand new one to a local charity. This program has helped Leesa deliver over 30,000 new mattresses to more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations.  Additionally, through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, each new mattress sold means a tree is planted somewhere around the world.

The Leesa is made from three foam layers, each serving a different function. A thick base of high-density poly foam offers stability and support for the layers above it. The top layer is made of relatively fast-reacting LSA 200 foam. This offers a slightly denser layer than memory foam which is what keeps you from feeling like you are sinking into the mattress.

Sandwiched between the base and top layer is 2” of memory foam. This layer gives fairly easily under pressure and offers the cushiony feel you expect form memory foam.  By placing it away from the surface, the Leesa provides users with a more rigid sleep surface as well as improved air circulation and cooling. All foam components of the Leesa mattress are CertiPUR-US® Certified, so you know there are no harmful chemicals in your bed.

This mattress offers exceptional support considering its all-foam construction. The microcell structure of Leesa’s LSA 200 foam alleviates pressure points without sacrificing a medium firm amount of pushback.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is about average in the Leesa mattress. You should expect to feel your partner moving throughout the night, and will definitely notice if they get in and out of the bed. This is likely the result of LSA 200 foam’s latex-like springiness, which is not dampened by the mattress’ lower layers.

A 100-night trial period gives you the opportunity to really test out your new Leesa mattress. If you don’t absolutely love it, Leesa will pick it up and refund your purchase price. If you decide to keep your new bed, you will find it covered by a 10-year warranty.

  • Fantastic cooling ability
  • Socially responsible company
  • CertiPUR-US® Certified materials

The Tuft & Needle foam mattress is a two-layer polyfoam mattress that offers support and feels comparable to memory foam at a lower price point. It is covered with a polyester/rayon blend fabric that can be removed for cleaning. Its somewhat firm support is best suited for lightweight to average back and side sleepers.

It is worth noting that Tuft & Needle operates brick and mortar stores. People who happen to live nearby can check out the features of their mattresses in person before making a decision.

The Tuft & Needle foam mattress is well designed. It is constructed from adaptive foam, which provides excellent support while maintaining a bouncy feel. Its materials carry several certifications, including Greenguard Gold and CertiPUR-US®. Designed for flexibility, the Tuft & Needle mattress can be used with most any type of foundation, including slatted frames, box springs, and adjustable bases.

TN Adaptive foam offers a cushiony feel without compromising support. You will feel like you are sleeping on the Tuft & Needle mattress, not inside of it. Because there is no transition between the support base and top layer, you may feel the support layer more than in other foam mattresses. However, the medium-firm support of this mattress is designed to last.

Motion Transfer

There is minimal motion transfer with this mattress. You should be able to sleep undisturbed even with your partner tossing and turning. You may notice someone getting in and out of the bed, but that is expected with a foam mattress.

This mattress is covered by a standard 10-year replacement warranty. Tuft & Needle offers a 100-night trial period, allowing you to decide if theirs is the best bed for you. If not, they’ll even cover return shipping

The TEMPUR materials you know and trust have been redesigned for even more comfort and support. Under that is a TEMPUR Support Layer that offers support to sleepers regardless of size or sleep position. The cover offers cool-to-the-touch technology to ensure you do not overheat during the night.

The comfort layer in Tempur-Pedic’s Adapt mattress adjusts to each individual user to provide customized support and a comfortable night’s rest. It offers a soft to medium-soft feel that allows you to feel the telltale hug of your foam mattress.

Motion Transfer

Overall, the mattresses we compared offer good support with varying levels of firmness. The Casper offers a firm feel with four layers of foam to support and cradle you. Expect to sleep on top of the Casper mattress, not in it, because of that firm support. If you are in the market for a new memory foam mattress, consider giving the Casper a 100-night trial run.
